When it was decided in 1981 to give the organization of the Seoul Games, South Koreawas a country with a dictatorial regime, but local and international pressure succeeded inconvening elections. While there were attempts to share the organization with North Koreaat the end of this country decided not to participate. In its decision was joined by Cuba,Ethiopia and Nicaragua.
Included the Olympic Sports Complex in Seoul than one million square meters was part of the Olympic Stadium, basketball and boxing palaces and facilities for horse racing and baseball. The other major venue was the Olympic Park including the Olympic pool, fitness center, velodrome and pavilions fencing and weightlifting.
Anti-doping tests were stars in these games with the disqualification of seven athletes,most notably Ben Johnson.
The pet named Hodori, was a legendary Korean traditions tigre.
Opening the ceremony white doves were imported especially to be released at this ceremony.
During the closing ceremony, Korean women gave Spanish women candles to symbolize the change of venue of the Olympiad.
